The Center for People With Disabilities provides resources, information, and advocacy to assist people with disabilities in overcoming barriers to independent living. CPWD was established in 1977 with a focus on employment. Today, we have a wide range of comprehensive programs and services that support our independent living philosophy. Disability is a part of life. It isn't something to be cured or to be pitied. Working from the premise that dignity and respect are the foundation of self-reliance, CPWD helps people with disabilities identify and conquer the barriers that stand in the way of their independence through the provision of services such as advocacy, housing assistance, personal assistance services, independent living skills training, peer support, and transition from nursing facilities to the community.

Intercambio de Comunidades builds bridges of understanding across cultures and creates a more integrated community through 300 volunteers a year who teach life-skills based English classes to 700 immigrants from over 30 different countries at their homes and public facilities. Voices For Children CASA trains volunteers to be Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). After completing a rigorous screening and training program, CASA volunteers are assigned by the court to specific child abuse and neglect cases. CASAs advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Boulder County and provide direct services to them. The CASA sees the children weekly, gathers information about their best interests, writes a monthly report, and stays on the case until it closes. The CASA is often the only consistent person in the child's life during a very traumatic time.

The YWCA of Boulder County is a human service agency dedicated to empowering women and girls, protecting children and eliminating racism. The YWCA provides Boulder's only emergency, drop-in childcare center. In addition, the YWCA offers programs that build self-esteem and develop the skills necessary to stay economically self-sufficient, such as Career Services, which includes one-on-one career counseling and job search assistance, the EDGE, a series of programs for girls to build leadership skills and self-confidence, and Lifeskills, a training program for women and men transitioning off of welfare to help them overcome self-defeating behaviors and obstacles to become economically self-sufficient.
